Celebration of International Museum Day -2019

North Bengal Science Centre, Siliguri celebrated International Museum Day on May 18, 2019 by organizing several activities for the students. On that occasion, a Workshop- Kits for Kids was organized for the students, where students were engaged in making science kits using low cost materials. After the workshop, all the students participated in a Visual Quiz competition.  Special Science Show and Science Film Show were also organized on that occasion. Programme was concluded with prize distribution to the successful participants.


Celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity- 2019

In order to create awareness about issues related to Biodiversity and conservation of ecosystem, North Bengal science Centre Siliguri celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22, 2019. Shri Ritabrata Biswas, Project Co-ordinator, North Bengal Science Centre, in his welcome speech, discussed various aspects of different components of Biodiversity and underlined the significance of celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity. A popular lecture on this year’s theme - Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health was delivered by eminent environmentalist Shri Biplab Ray. In his lecture he focused on biodiversity as the foundation for our food and health and as a key catalyst of transforming food systems and improving human well-being. A Field-study programme to observe different components of Biodiversity was organized for the students.  An Open House Quiz on Biological Diversity and a Film Show on Environment were also organized on this occasion. Programme was concluded with prize distribution session to winners. A large number of students from various schools enjoyed the programme.


Vacation Science Camp

 North Bengal Science Centre is organizing  Vacation Science Camp from 20th May, 2019 to 31st May, 2019 for school students. During the camps, the students are being engaged for performing hands-on science experiments and making science projects. Details of the camps are given below:

Report on Celebration of Earth Day

In order to create awareness about environmental issues such as global warming and conservation of biological diversity, North Bengal Science Centre Siliguri celebrated Earth Day-2019 by organizing several educational activities on April 22, 2019. The day long programme started with a discussion on importance of Earth Day by Shri Ritabrata Biswas, Project Co-ordinator, North Bengal Science Centre. Next programme was a Popular Science Lecture, which was delivered by Shri Biplab Ray, eminent Environmentalist,   on the topic Protect Our Species. The students also participated in a workshop on the topic – Ecology & Biodiversity. Other activities like, Film Show on Climate Change and Open House Visual Quiz were also organized for the students. Students from five different schools participated in the programme. Programme concluded with prize distribution to the winners.

A new gallery 'Light , Mirrors and Images' was inaugurated at NBSC Siliguri on 17.02.17 by Prof. Somnath Ghosh, Vice-Chancellor, University of North Bengal in the esteemed presence of Sk. E. Islam, Director, Birla Industrial & technological Museum, Dr. S. Sarkar, Principal, Naxal Bari College and other dignitaries. 

The Gallery comprises of 32 interactive exhibits which combine science and entertainment in a uniquely action packed ambience to provide an enjoyable learning experience to the visitors. 

North Bengal Science Centre, Siliguri celebrated the 1st INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE AND SCIENCE MUSEUM DAY on NOVEMBER 10, 2016 by conducting several programmes for the school students and for underprivileged students. Shri Anabil Dutta,WBCS(Exe.) District Project Officer, Sarba Shiksha Mission, Siliguri was present as the Chief Guest of the programme. Prof Avijit Roy (Retd.), Department of Chemistry, University of North Bengal presided over the programme. Prof Roy delivered a popular science lecture on “Impacts of Green House Gases on Environment’.  In his address to the students Shri Anabil Dutta underlined the need of science temperament and quality science education for the betterment of the society. Project Coordinator explained the significance of celebration of INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE AND SCIENCE MUSEUM DAY and called upon the audience for applying science in a judicious manner for the benefit of the society.

In the programme Slogan writing Competition, a multimedia presentation on Global climate Change, audio visual quiz on Environment for school students and popular lecture on ‘Aiming Towards the World-2030: Sustainable Development Goals and Public Participation’. In his lecture Project Coordinator Shri Ram Swaroop illustrated upon the sustainable development goals- 2030 and role of science centres and science museums in realization of the SDGs.   He called upon the audience to contribute their fair share in realizing the SDGs to ensure habitability of the mother Earth and quality of life on it. An audio visual science quiz competition was arranged next. Special Science Show and Science Demonstration Lecture were also arranged for the students.


उत्तर बंगाल विज्ञान केंद्र मे राजभाषा हिन्दी में हो रहे कार्यकलापों को बढ़ावा देने और हिन्दी कामकाज में आने वाली कठिनाइयों के समुचित समाधान हेतु राजभाषा विभाग संस्कृति मंत्रालय से श्री वेदप्रकाश गौड़, निदेशक(रा. भा.) की अध्यक्षता में विज्ञान केंद्र दिनांक 24.10.16 को  एक दिवसीय कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया गया। इस अवसर पर विभिन्न केन्द्रीय कार्यालयों और स्वायतशासी निकायों से आए प्रतिनिधियों ने भाग लिया। श्री एस.डी.,अवर सचिव, संस्कृति मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार  श्री तेजस्वरूप  त्रिपाठी,सहायक निदेशक(रा. भा.) और श्री एस. सावंत, सहायक आचार्य, भारतीय खेल प्राधिकरण की सम्मानित उपस्थिति में हिन्दी प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर चर्चा हुई। कार्यशाला का शुभारंभ दैनिक जीवन में योग के महत्व पर श्री एस. सावंत, सहायक आचार्य, भारतीय खेल प्राधिकरण द्वारा एक प्रस्तुति द्वारा हुई।   इस संगोष्ठी में हिन्दी के लोकभाषा के रूप में महत्व को रेखांकित किया गया और कार्यालय  मे हिन्दी पत्राचार को बढ़ाने और दैनिक कामकाज को हिन्दी में किए जाने की सुगमता और समावेशी रूप पर चर्चा हुई। श्री वेदप्रकाश गौड़ ने अपने वृहद अनुभवों को प्रतिभागीगणों के साथ बांटा और प्रतिभागिगणों की शंकाओं के बड़े व्यावहारिक समाधान सुझाए। विज्ञान केंद्र के परियोजना समन्वयक ने हिंदुस्तान और हिन्दी समावेशी दर्शन पर प्रकाश डाला और हिन्दी को और ज्यादा व्याहरिक और समावेशी बनाने का आह्वान किया। हिन्दी की हिंदुस्तान को एकसूत्र में बांधे रखने और भ्रात्रभाव बनाए रखने की क्षमता को रेखांकित किया और हिन्दी को जनमानस और जनजागरण की भाषा बताया।

On the occasion of Hindi Day various programmes and activities were organized at North Bengal Science Centre, Siliguri. On this occasion the role of Hindi in Nation Freedom Movement, its role in present scenario and future projection in the development of the nation were illustrated by Project Co-ordinator of the centre. He marked Hindi as one of the major aspects affecting national integrity and development and call upon the audiences to make the language more inclusive and harmonious so as to make it the language of the common man in real sense. He established that Hindi is the vital tool to popularize science in the grass root level. An informative popular lecture on Dengue was delivered by Mr. Vipin Gupta to address the current issue of Dengue in the region and create awareness about the same. Different type of competitions such slogan writing, speech, poetry and quiz were organized for school children as well as among office staff.
